One of my favorite aspects about being a historian is doing research. There's just something about going to a library or archive hunting for information that I find rather exciting. While I was in college not only did I discover my passion for research but also the enjoyment of helping others find the sources they need. As a professional historian I aim to use my passion to help others find the information they are searching for. With my research skills, connections and knowledge of resources I am to provide thorough and professional research and reporting to my clients.

I offer research services in the following areas:

  • Research
    • The combination of my education and professional experience has provided me the essential skills needed to conduct thorough research. My mission is to gather as much information on the desired subject and leave no stone un-turned. My services can be useful not only to those interested in history but also to a variety of industries including businesses, law-firms, and non-profit organizations. 
    • This service includes:
      • A written summery of the information gathered
      • Copies (hard or digital) of all documents.
  • Genealogy
    • Where did I come from? What were my ancestors like? These are common questions that many people ask themselves. If you are interested in finding out your family's history but don't have the time or know where to look, then I can help. I have been working on my own family's genealogy for over a year now, giving me experience and confidence in the field.
    • This service includes:
      • A written report of the information found on your family history.
      • Hard or digital copies of records found.
  • Archival Services
    • If you have a lot of family documents, pictures, artifacts, etc. and you don't have the time or patience to go through your collection then this service is for you. 
    • This service includes:
      • Organization of your personal collection so whatever item you're looking for is easy to find.
      • In addition I can also create digital copies of your documents and photographs of your belongings (beneficial for insurance purposes) if you wish. 
  • Historic Preservation Consultation
    • If you have a home, commercial building, or any other structure that is 60 years old or older then your residence my be eligible to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Available tax credits are:
      • Federal: 20% tax credit for the rehabilitation of an income producing historic property.
      • State of North Carolina: An additional 20% tax credit to those who receive the Federal credit. This gives the investor a 40% credit towards the cost of rehabilitation.
      • For non-income producing structures (including private residence) there is a 30% credit made available by state.
      • The State Mill Rehabilitation Tax Credits are also available for the rehabilitation of industrial structures.

    • This service includes:
      • Writing of the nomination 
      • Consulting with the State Historic Preservation Office
      • Research on the structure and its eligibility. 
    • Please note that the North Carolina Historic Preservation Tax Credit will expire at the end of 2014. This means if you wish to receive the tax credit you need to act as soon as possible.
    • In order to establish myself as a certified consultant the state of North Carolina requires me to consult on my first property for free. Therefore if you wish to put your property on the National Register then the first property to contact me will be done for free (on average at least a $500 value). My qualifications for this area include an internship with the State Historic Preservation office where I assisted in the process of nominating a historic district and had the opportunity to observe review meetings given by the National Register Advisory Committee. I have also taken classes at ECU in historic preservation planning and historic architecture.
My current charge for research is $10.00/Hour . 
 -Additional charges my apply if needed to cover the cost of travel and materials.
